Kalbar is our second closest town (after Boonah) and it is a true gem, you could call it creative Kalbar. This tiny town doesn't necessarily stand out as you drive through, but don't let that fool you. You'll find niche gift shops, quality antiques, super cute cafes and of course a country pub! Here's our guide to the quaint, creative, country town, Kalbar, only an hour from Brisbane!
The Emporium has bought even more life to this little town. Set up in the historic Wiss Bros building by the people behind Empire Revival in Paddington, it is full of character and charm! You will find quality, eclectic antiques, art and all sorts of treasures! You can truly lose yourself in here and a visit to Kalbar is not complete without a visit to The Emporium.
Across the road from The Emporium, you will see the colourful flowerpots outside this welcoming cafe full of greenery. Lovett specialise in beautiful baked goods, scrumptious salads, coffee and more. Dine in or grab some takeaway as you hit the road.
Country Soul Collective is a new addition to Kalbar, bursting with great gifts and homewares, you will sure to find something you'll want to take home. Browse the shop and then head out the back to the courtyard and enjoy a tasty treat.
4. BMK and Nanny Lou's Lane
Two great neighbouring shops well worth checking out! BMK is packed with unique items from around Australia and overseas. You'll definitely say 'oh, I haven't seen that before' more than once! Nanny Lou's next door, has fantastic, quality ladies fashion, crafts and gifts. Both top shops run by top people!
5. Post Masters Sweets, Kalbar
A country post office with a lolly and fudge shop that pushes all those nostalgia buttons! Classic boiled lollies, retro sweets, chocolates and so many fudge flavors! As far as we know, it is the only post office like it!
Kalbar breathes creativity and it is well worth adding to your Scenic Rim itinerary! It is just another example of the hidden gems you will find when visiting our special region. Only 30mins from Ketchup's Bank Glamping, and an hour from Brisbane, Kalbar is a perfect little day trip leaving plenty of time to come back to your accomodation and spend the afternoon relaxing on the deck as the sun goes down.
